Mimicking Yourself

There are many ways that animals protect themselves.  Some animals have markings that are similar to those of animals that are toxic, or undesirable to predators. One of the most commonly cited examples of this is comparing the markings of the milk snake and the coral snake. Some animals have markings that make them appear like another predator, the eyespots on some butterflies and moths can appear very much like owls.  Sometimes markings or behavior may confuse a predator as to where to attack.  Take a look at how a highly venomous sea snake uses this kind of mimicry to protect itself from predators.
